WHAT IS ADULT DAY CARE? Adult Day Care Centers are designed to provide care and companionship for seniors and adults with disabilities who need assistance or supervision during the day. The program offers relief to family members or caregivers and allows them the freedom to go to work, handle personal business or just relax while knowing their relative is well cared for and safe.The goals of the program are to delay or prevent institutionalization by providing alternative care, to enhance self-esteem and to encourage socialization. There are two types of adult day care: Adult social day care provides social activities, meals, recreation and some health-related services. Adult day health care offers more intensive health, therapeutic and social services for individuals with severe medical problems and those at risk of requiring nursing home care. Soteria is a social day care center.
WHO BENEFITS FROM ADULT DAY SERVICES? - Older adults who are physically, cognitively, or just socially impaired and/or require assistance with less than 3 ADL's (activities of daily living) - Disabled adults and elderly who live with family and are unable to be left alone, but do not require 24-hour institutional care - Caretaker who would benefit from the freedom to go to work, handle personal business, or just relax knowing their relative is well cared for, happy, and safe.
HOW DOES SOTERIA ADULT DAY CARE CENTER OPERATE? This center is open during working hours M-F 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and we are located at 8247 Ocean Highway in the beautiful coastal town of Pawleys Island, SC. The staff at Soteria monitors medications, serves hot meals and healthy snacks, performs social and recreational therapies, and arranges other socially stimulating activities. We also help to arrange local transportation to and from the center.
HOW DOES SOTERIA MEET AN INDIVIDUAL'S SPECIAL NEEDS? Soteria is dedicated to meeting all of your adult day center needs. At enrollment, a comprehensive assessment of needs is completed and an individualized service plan is developed. Soteria has certain exclusionary criteria in place for its programs, meaning there may be some medical needs/treatments that cannot be met. Please call our professional staff who will determine if we can meet your specific needs.
HOW CAN SOTERIA ENHANCE THE CLIENT'S LIFE? Our daily curriculum of activities is designed to motivate and rehabilitate our participants in order to improve quality of life by assuring freedom of choice and independence. Scheduled events include but are not limited to arts and crafts, exercise groups, dancing, entertaining presentations, focused discussion groups, skill building activities, reminiscence therapy, etc. Our clients are afforded opportunities to build lasting relationships which helps avoid depression and loneliness.
WHAT TYPES OF MEALS ARE SERVED? We offer nutritionally balanced lunches catered daily by a local vendor. Menus are approved by a Registered Dietician to assertain that adequate nutritional requirements are met. Healthy snacks are served twice daily. Our participants may help design our monthly menus. Special diets are accommodated. If desired, drinks and snacks may also be brought from home.
DO YOU ACCEPT CLIENTS WITH ALZHEIMER'S? Yes, all of our staff are experienced and qualified to care for those with Alzheimers and/or dementia as long as they are not a danger to themselves, our staff, and our other clients.
HOW DO I PAY FOR ADULT DAY SERVICES? Since our costs are much more affordable than institutionalization, most are private pay or covered by long term care insurance. While adult day care is not usually covered by insurance or Medicare, some financial assistance may be available through the VA and the Alzheimer's Association.
